Description
C.T.B purchased 165 buses from Germany in 1957 for 3 million Rupees. The all metal body done by Voll (pronounce foll) in Germany. They were the top of the range at that time. In Ceylon.(SriLanka) The curved front & back was the norm then for nice look & reduce wind pressure at front for speed & better fuel consumption. The engine was OM 312, 6 Cylinder Indirection Diesel meaning ,engine had to be Preheat before starting. The ivory colored steering wheel had a chromed center ring for horn & indicators. Compressed- air assisted drum breaks front & back. The front passenger side door was air operated by the driver, the back one done by hand. Instrument panel had speedometer, water temperature, oil pressure, air pressure & amp meter. Original inside colors were really good. Lucky I used to go to school by those fantastic buses. Remaining 3 buses are now 57 years old. Upto my knowledge Three of these buses, One in Kurunegala, One in Kandy north,Yatinuwara and another in Kandy south depots.
